Redesign of Killing Joke album "Democracy", which explores politics, culture, medicine, and spirituality. Killing Joke is from the UK but I am an American and applied this to what was going on in my country at the time
Idea was half survival kit and half secret government briefcase. Pages of CD artwork are a parody of the governement website just released and very controversial at the time, [link], which advises civilians on how to be prepared for an emergency. Specifically acts of terrorism. Simple illustrations copied from the site are overlaid with acetate printed with photographs that were photocopied until they reached a point of being nearly abstract, dirty and chaotic. This is meant to show how incredibly serious topics are glossed over, and the dichotomy of the songs, discussing collapse, but with optimism and hope. Words on the cover are the chorus to the title track, "I'm sorry, democracy is changing." CD art is after the Great Seal of the United States, and the picture of George Bush is there because we are advised to carry a picture of those close to us in case of an emergency, to help find them if they are missing. Student work from 2002-2004. Unfortunately I only have a few small preview files, and hard copies I have not scanned, since I lost all my work in the great Hard Drive Crash of '06. |
